NYPA Offers Boating Access to Reservoirs and Waterways
The Hinckley boat launch (NYPA's recreational boat launch at the Hinckley dam and reservoir) is currently closed for the season and is anticipated to reopen in May of 2022.
Directional and warning buoys by the power dam spillway are in place. Located along the north side of the reservoir on Route 365, NYPA built the boat launch in 1985 as a recreational measure in connection with the construction of its Gregory B. Jarvis small-hydro power plant.
When open for the boating season (it is currently closed) it is open daily during daylight hours. The newly expanded launch now consists of concrete planks extending 250 feet into the reservoir to permit easy access for boaters. During season the launch remains open as long as reservoir conditions remain safe for boating.
The Hinckley Boat Launch is open seasonally, typically from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Water elevations play a vital role in the operation of the Hinckley Boat Launch. Low water may result in unsafe launching conditions which would cause NYPA to temporarily close the launch until the elevation rises to a level ensuring the safe launching or removal of boats.
