NYPA Offers Boating Access to Reservoirs and Waterways

The Hinckley boat launch is closed for the season

Hinckley Reservoir boat-launching ramp closed for the 2019 season, effective Sunday, Sept. 29. NYPA also removed the directional and warning buoys at the boat launch, and by the power dam spillway and at other areas in the vicinity of its Gregory B. Jarvis Power Plant, a small 9,000-kilowatt hydroelectric facility that straddles Oneida and Herkimer counties.

The reopening of the Hinckley Reservoir boat-launching ramp is planned for May 2020, before the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Located along the north side of the reservoir on Route 365, and open daily during the boating season, the recreational boat launch consists of concrete planks extending 200 feet into the reservoir to permit easy access for boaters. The launch will remain open as long as reservoir conditions remain safe for boating.

The Hinckley Boat Launch is open seasonally, typically from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Water elevations play a vital role in the operation of the Hinckley Boat Launch. Low water may result in unsafe launching conditions which would cause NYPA to temporarily close the launch until the elevation rises to a level ensuring the safe launching or removal of boats.
