WHITE PLAINS—Janis E. Archer, director of Strategy Management for the New York Power Authority (NYPA), was recently named one of Westchester’s most influential female leaders in government by 914INC, a quarterly business publication of Westchester Magazine. Archer, a resident of Chappaqua, is one of 18 outstanding women selected from across Westchester County who represent excellence in four categories: entrepreneurs, executives, non-profit and government. The winners were honored Thursday, Nov. 20, at the fourth annual Woman in Business Awards Luncheon at the Double-Tree Hilton in Tarrytown.

As director of Strategy Management, Archer was recognized for leading NYPA though a year-long strategic planning process in response to rapid changes in New York State’s electric industry. The process led to NYPA’s 2014-2019 Strategic Vision which is designed to place the Power Authority at the forefront of the U.S. electric utility industry, creating the greatest possible benefit to its customers and to New York State. Prior to moving to the Strategic Planning department, Archer held positions of increasing responsibility in NYPA’s Information Technology department from 1989- 2008. NYPA is the nation’s largest state public power organization with its main administrative offices in White Plains.

Archer serves on the board of directors for the Academy of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in White Plains, and is a former chair of the board of directors for the Valhalla Volunteer Ambulance Corps. She holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University School of Professional Studies, a Master of Science in Computer Science from Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Binghamton University, College of Arts and Sciences.

Archer is profiled, along with her follow honorees, in the current issue of 914INC., now available on newsstands in the Westchester region and online at http://www.westchestermagazine.com/Women-in-Business-2014/Janis-Archer/.
