With NYPA-Supported Charging Stations, Electric Vehicles Can Go the Distance

In support of NYPA's Electric Transportation Program, the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate, and the Charge NY initiative NYPA has overseen the development and installation of electric vehicle charging stations throughout New York State. The Charge NY program's goal is to install 3,000 personal electric vehicle charging stations by 2018.  Since the program’s inception, Charge NY has supported the installation of more than a hundred charging stations, revised regulations to simplify charging station ownership, and sponsored technology research. NYSERDA , NYPA, and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation are collaborating on Charge NY.

Signature Charge NY Station locations include: The NY State Thruway's EV rapid chargers at travel plazas in Malden, Modena, Plattekill and Ulster, installed in partnership with the NYS Thruway Authority and Nissan, N.A.; Metro North Train Stations in Westchester County; NYS Airports in Albany, Buffalo and Niagara; and Municipal parking lots in Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island.

Work with NYPA and Benefit from Our Experience

Are you a Municipality interested in EVSE projects? NYPA offers electric vehicle charging station implementation and finance services to local and state government agencies.

  • Competitive Solicitation: NYPA has completed a competitive solicitation for 300 EVSE that municipalities can utilize through NYPA’s Energy Efficiency Program. The contract includes hardware, software, and installation services.
  • Self-install option: For municipalities planning to use in-house staff to install EVSE, NYPA can supply the hardware and software.
  • Five year loans with low interest rates: NYPA finances prospective EVSE projects through five-year loans with low government-to-government interest rates. In addition, customers can use DEC funding to pre-pay the NYPA loan and avoid interest expenses.
