The Power Authority’s commitment to the environment began with our original mandate, to develop the hydroelectric resources of the St. Lawrence River.
Starting with our first generating facility, the St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Power Project in Massena, we’ve included parks, wildlife areas and other conservation and recreational features as part of our development plans, setting the standard for other electric utilities throughout the United States. Today, the day-to-day operations at all of our facilities incorporate environmental considerations and meet or exceed all applicable environmental rules.
