NYPA has developed clean, non-polluting solar photovoltaic power installations at its headquarters in White Plains and in schools and government facilities across New York State. In fact, with 122 photovoltaic (PV) projects under our belt thus far, we are responsible for contributing a combined capacity of more than 2,500 kilowatts of clean energy for New York State's energy needs.

Sitting atop NYPA’s White Plains office building, is a solar demon-stration project consisting of 20 solar panels measuring 26 square feet apiece, for a total size of 520 square feet. The system delivers 5.5 kw to the office building. In addition, we recently added a second PV system comprised of two different types of solar cells. The system, which delivers 8 kw, is designed to compare performance between thin cell and conventional solar cells. (Read more about thin film solar cells).
In addition to installing solar-power facilities at our White Plains office and Niagara and Blenheim-Gilboa visitors centers, we’ve installed PV systems at the Gun Hill bus depot and other public facilities from Long Island to Buffalo.
