FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HOLTSVILLE—The New York Power Authority (NYPA) has
joined several other groups and organizations in sponsoring the
eighth annual Long Island Regional Envirothon, the premier
environmental competition for Long Island high school students,
planned for Wednesday, April 26, at the St. John’s University Campus
in Oakdale.
This year over 70 students from 11 Nassau and
Suffolk county high schools will compete to test their knowledge in
areas such as aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife and a current
issue topic -- “Water Stewardship in a Changing Climate.”
Along with NYPA, other sponsors include: Canon USA,
St. John’s University, KeySpan and the Nassau and Suffolk County
Water Authorities.
‘This environmental competition educates students
as to how Nassau and Suffolk counties, and New York State fit into
the larger topics of nation and worldwide environmental
conservation.” said Joseph Leary, director, Public and Governmental
Affairs for NYPA’s Southeast New York Region. “We are proud to be a
sponsor of this environmental education event.”
This is the fifth year in a row NYPA has been a
sponsor on this event.
