WINTHROPThe New York Power Authority Monday acted to assist the Tri Town Minor Hockey Association with the refurbishment of the community center arena in Winthrop.
Randy D. Crissman, the Power Authority's Regional Manager for Northern New York, presented a $5,000 check to the association.
"When this arena was built in 1972, the Power Authority was one of the organizations that helped then," said Crissman. "Over the years, many of our staff members and their families have used the facility for hockey, figure skating and just plain recreational skating. So I'm happy to be here to help provide the funds that renew this facility and keep it useful for years into the future."
While the facility is jointly operated by the Towns of Brasher and Stockholm the fund-raising is being conducted by the Tri-Town Minor Hockey Assn.
Crissman also noted that in response to a request from Brasher-Stockholm Recreation Committee, the Power Authority is providing poles to help illuminate an athletic field.
The poles, two provided at cost and four at no cost, will also be set in place by a Power Authority crew.
