Winners of Oneida County Envirothon Announced

MARCY Students from seven Oneida County high schools gathered at the New York Power Authoritys Clark Energy Center on Wednesday, April 25, to compete in the sixth annual Onedia County Envirothon. The overall winning team was from New Hartford High School.
Members of the winning New Hartford Team 1 included Phil Cavo, Liz DeAngelo, Bill Elliot, Joanna Goodman and Laurel Nuessle, with advisor, Hallie Snowman. They will represent Onedia County at the State Envirothon at SUNY Cobleskill on May 30-31, 2001.
In addition to New Hartford High School, the following schools were also represented: Camden High School, Clinton Central School, Oneida County Career & Technical Center, Oriskany High School, Proctor High School and Whitesboro High School.
The Envirothon is designed to increase awareness of the environment and ways to protect it. At this Envirothon, two teams of students from each school competed by answering questions on the environmental subjects of aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife and urban issues.
The Power Authority and the Oneida County Soil & Water Conservation District sponsored this countywide Envirothon. This is the sixth year that the Power Authority sponsored this event.
