Free Family Safety Fair and Touch-a-Truck Event to Come to the Niagara Power Vista on June 10

LEWISTON—The New York Power Authority (NYPA) will hold a family safety fair and touch-a-truck event on Saturday, June 10, at the Niagara Power Vista.

The free event will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on the grounds and inside the newly renovated Niagara Power Vista in Lewiston. Families can learn about safety in a variety of professions, enjoy activities and demonstrations, and visit with the Buffalo Zoomobile (between 1 and 3:30 p.m.)

NYPA will display numerous trucks and heavy equipment used to perform daily tasks at the Niagara Power Project, including a hybrid bucket truck, dump truck, backhoe and cranes. Visitors will also be able to:

Learn why it’s important to protect the public and underground facilities at the Dig Safely New York truck and interactive display 
See a ready mix concrete truck from United Materials in action 
Step into the fire safety house of the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Department will provide free child safety IDs. North Tonawanda Police will be conducting car seat safety checks to ensure the seat has been properly installed for anyone interested.

Children 16 and under can enter the “Build Up to Safety” contest, submitting a themed poster, collage, photo or sculpture on weather safety. Top winner takes home a youth bicycle complete with safety gear. Science prizes for second- and third-place winners.

Visitors also can enjoy the new interactive exhibits including the one-of-a-kind transmission grid touch table, a virtual roller coaster ride, and simulated experiences in running the Niagara Power Project, building a dam and distributing power across the state. The Power Vista also offers spectacular views from an observation deck 350 feet above the Niagara River gorge.

The Niagara Power Vista is a stop on the Discover Niagara Shuttle – and a stop for Discovery Pass holders.
