Joseph Leary is Vice President, Community and Government Relations and has served as head of the New York Power Authority's Public, Governmental and Regulatory Affairs department since December 2011.
Leary joined the Power Authority as Senior Federal Affairs Liaison in its Washington, D.C. office. Since then, he has served in a variety of roles with increasing responsibility in community and government relations.
He served at the Indian Point 3 Nuclear Power Plant, formerly owned by NYPA, and subsequently worked on the Authority's Y2K initiative. He led community relations efforts in support of NYPA's Small Clean Power Plants in the New York City metropolitan area and Long Island and its 500 MW combined-cycle power project in Queens.
Leary was promoted to Vice President Community and Government Relations in 2010, assuming responsibility for NYPA's relations with its upstate constituencies.
Prior to joining the Power Authority, Leary worked for New York City government. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, N. Y.
