NYCHA Truck Unveiling- Group
You won't find tailpipes on the two new trucks purchased by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), because they are all-electric and don't emit any exhaust. The heavy-duty electric trucks, unveiled at a ceremony at NYCHA's Long Island City warehouse facility in Queens, Dec. 13, represent the latest green initiative resulting from a partnership between NYCHA and its power provider, the New York Power Authority
.
Standing before one of the trucks are, from left: Shaun Hession, deputy director of General Services, NYCHA; Ruth Colon, Environmental Justice, NYPA; Guy Sliker, director, Renewable Energy Resources and Technology, NYPA; Sobeida Cruz, vice president Environmental Justice, NYPA; Peter Giasemis, Lead Account Executive, NYPA; NYCHA Board Member and Environmental Coordinator Margarita López, and truck manufacturing representatives, Steven Dorn, vice president operations, Milea Truck Sales Corp, and Brett Gipe, regional sales director, Smith Electric Vehicles.

A green initiative engineered by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and its power provider, the New York Power Authority (NYPA), resulted in NYCHA's purchase of the two new all-electric trucks. NYPA and NYCHA plan to work closely to monitor performance and environmental benefits of the electric trucks. After taking one truck for a quick spin around the yard at the formal unveiling at NYCHA's Long Island City warehouse facility in Queens, Dec. 13, NYCHA Board Member and Environmental Coordinator Margarita López has some preliminary results of her own, "Fabuloso!"

"An agency of our size has a moral obligation to engage in greening the planet, and we have worked side-by-side with NYPA on many projects to do just that," says López. "Together, the sky is the limit!"
