NORTH BLENHEIM—Warm up those January weekends with free showings of classic musicals at the admission-free visitors center for the New York Power Authority (NYPA) Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped Storage Power Project. The featured films will show Sundays in January at 2 p.m. with popcorn “on-the-house.”

NYPA’s handicapped-accessible facility is housed in a restored 19th century dairy barn and features hands-on exhibits for students of all ages and abilities. In addition to enjoying the movies, visitors can learn how the power project acts like a giant battery, generating hydroelectricity while recycling water between two huge reservoirs. Other displays demonstrate the basics of electricity, energy production and conservation.
Throughout the year, the Blenheim-Gilboa Visitors Center is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week, except for certain holidays. It is located at 1378 State Route 30 in North Blenheim, about 17 miles south of Middleburgh and five miles north of Grand Gorge.
