FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LEWISTON—The New York Power Authority (NYPA) marks its 50th year of “Free Family Fun” at the Niagara Power Vista, NYPA’s admission-free visitors center located at the Niagara Hydroelectric Power Plant, 5777 Lewiston Road, Lewiston, N.Y.

The Power Vista first opened its doors to the public 50 years ago on July 19, 1963. Since then, many changes have been made to improve the visitor experience at the Power Vista, which contains more than 50 interactive exhibits relating to the production of electricity, energy efficiency and the area’s history, plus the spectacular views from the observation deck 350 feet above the Niagara River Gorge.

Visitors can join in the celebration by leaving a message on a special 50th Anniversary greeting card. The cards will be displayed in the Power Vista and ultimately included in a Power Vista time capsule to be buried later in the year.

In addition, visitors can enjoy the new “Walk through Time” exhibit displayed on the Power Vista’s glass walkway. The exhibit features historic photos of the Power Vista from each decade during the past 50 years.

Meanwhile, the Power Vista is gearing up for its 7 millionth visitor, expected to occur during the 50th year celebration. To commemorate this milestone, visitors will receive a “I’m 1 in 7 million – Seven million visitors at the Niagara Power Vista” button.

Visitors are invited to take part in various other community events at the Power Vista throughout the year, including the upcoming 2-day Wildlife Festival (Sept. 28 and 29) – an indoor and outdoor event in cooperation with the Niagara County Federation of Conservation Clubs, the annual Spooktacular (Oct. 26), Deck the Halls (Dec. 7), and the annual Festival of Trees (Dec. 1 through Jan. 4, 2014).

Upon request, arrangements can also be made for the Power Vista staff to present a program on electricity and energy efficiency at schools and business/community events.
