LEWISTON —The New York Power Authority (NYPA) will kick-off the holiday season with its annual Festival of Trees beginning Dec. 1 to Jan. 5.  On Dec. 8, NYPA will hold its annual Deck the Halls holiday event featuring photos with Santa.  Both events will take place at its admission-free Niagara Power Vista, 5777 Lewiston Road, Lewiston, N.Y.  Both admission and parking are free for these events.

The Festival of Trees features a dazzling display of artificial evergreens, adorned with energy efficient lights and decorated for the season by local non-profit groups arranged in grand style along the Power Vista’s glass walkway.  It is an official stop along the “Holiday Lights of Niagara Trail” (holidaylightsofniagara.blogspot.com/).

The spirit of the holiday continues at NYPA’s Deck the Halls holiday event, on Sat. Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring photos with Santa till 2 p.m. In addition, guests can experience craft-making with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (Parks Dept.); performances by the Niagara Experience Players; and an informational exhibit on energy efficient lights and tips on celebrating a green holiday.

Lewiston Boy Scout Troop #855 will sell hot dogs, roasted chestnuts and hot chocolate during the event.  The Parks Dept. will also provide free rides on its Niagara Scenic Trolley between the Gorge Discovery Center and the Niagara Power Vista during the event.

In addition to holiday activities, guests are invited to enjoy the Power Vista’s attractions, including displays and interactive exhibits relating to the production of electricity, energy efficiency and the area’s history, as well as spectacular views from the observation deck 350 feet above the Niagara River Gorge. Parking and admission at the Power Vista is always free.
